Bombers Win Show Me Classic in Marceline

The St. Louis Bombers smashed the St. Louis Ramblers 80-0 on Saturday and then held off the Kansas City Blues 37-24 in Sunday's final to once again capture the championship at the Show Me Classic in rural Marceline, MO. The Bombers recieved the $1500 first prize for a solid weekend performance that saw them run in 20 tries to their opponent's 3.

Bombers 80 Ramblers 0

The Bombers feasted upon a surplus of quality ball from the forwards to blow out the Ramblers 80-0. The balanced Bombers attack resulted in 7 tries from the backs and 7 tries from the forwards.

Bomber wing Tim Stolarski opened the scoring by outracing everyone to gather a kick in the corner. Fullback Conail Boyd and flyhalf Brian Meyer used the kick to consistently pin the Ramblers deep in their end. The Bomber forwards then proceeded to pound the Ramblers tryline, with captain and lock Phil Reed, hooker Josh Witten and Flanker Zach Giljum all scoring tries in a 15 minute span. Wing Alan Kloss finsihed off the half with 2 tries from nice assists from center TJ Ebner and Boyd. Halftime 36-0 Bombers.

The second half began like the first half ended- another Kloss try out wide. Next, Prop Gio Lafata bulled over from close range, quickly followed by tries from replacement forwards Matt Gleed and Ben Schwab. Man of the Match Conail Boyd sliced through the entire Rambler side for the try of the match to push the Bombers up 63-0. Boyd added his second moments later, as did Stolarskis to make it 75-0 with 10 minutes to play. Debutant scrumhalf Kevin Tucker made a great individual play with a tackle and poach and breakaway run before offloading close to the line to Schwab for his second try and a final score of Bombers 80 Ramblers 0.

Championship Match: Bombers 37 KC Blues 24

The Bombers jumped out to a 18-3 lead from Tim Basler, Conail Boyd and Zach Giljum tries. KC responded with lock Ashley Pouche scampering in from the side of a ruck to narrow the score to 18-10 at the break.

The Bombers took command early in the second half as the forwards controlled the match with steady pressure in close. Hooker Pat Hess and flanker Zach Giljum each scored from lineout drives to push the Bomber lead to 30-10. Both sides then made multiple substitutions on a hot afternoon. The Blues put the ball through the hands to put wing Pablo Carrera in for a well deserved try and cut the lead to 30-17. Bomber flyhalf Justin Mastroianni scampered in to push the Bombers up 37-17. Blues captain Joey Shirley finished the match with a last minute try to bring the final to Bombers 37 Blues 24.
