Charlotte in Comeback Win over Bombers

Sportport Stadium, St. Louis, MO - May 3, 2008

Charlotte ran in four second half tries to battle back for a solid victory against a very game Bomber side at Sportport Stadium in St. Louis. Charlotte wing Setareki Tuilevuka and veteran flyhalf Craig Errington stood out for the visitors, who put together a brilliant 20 minute span in the second half to claim the victory.

It was a tale of two halves as St. Louis dominated territory and possession in the first spell. Charlotte fullback Jacko Ah Hoy snuck into the corner for his team's only try of the half to open the scoring. But St. Louis put the clamps on the match and kept Charlotte at bay for the remainder of the half. Bomber wing TJ Ebner and Conail Boyd raced in tries, and Boyd added a penalty kick to give St. Louis a 13-7 halftime lead.

Charlotte came out strong in the second half as Tuilevuka and prop Michael Cook ran in early tries. St. louis answered when lock Ben Meyers went over from a driving maul to make it 21-18 Charlotte. But fullback Jonathan Gough and center Jason Foresman responded with tries, and a late Errington penalty kick closed out a solid 38-18 Charlotte victory.

Bomber White 48 Principia 17

The Bomber Whites closed out a superb season by running in 8 tries and easily handling a very athletic Principia side 48-17. Lock Jason Isaacson, flyhalf Jim Morrison and halfback Pat Ryan stood out for the Whites.

Ryan ran in two early tries to get his team rolling. Flyhalf Jim Morrison and #8 Sam Stahnke added first half tries as the Bombers were dominating possession. But Principia capitalized on Bomber mistakes and ran in two long intercept tries to bring the halftime score to 22-12 Bombers.

The Bombers continued their strong play in the second half. Prop Jahaan Ashfaq crashed over from short range, quickly followed by Isaacson's thundering run up central to push the Bombers up 34-12. Principia answered with a quick try off the restart, as the young Bombers watched a kickoff hit the ground and bounce into the hands of the Principia winger.

Morrison notched his second try of the day from an Isaacson offload, and center Nick Godfrey finished off the scorring in a convincing 48-17 White side victory.

Flankers Brent Papek and Cody Murphy (playing his first ever rugby match) were very strong in support and in the tackle. Kyle Manley did a great job at fullback, and centers Eric Hinson and Godfrey were too much for Principia to handle.
