Denver, CO- April 5, 2008 The Bombers White Side traveled to Denver to face the Denver Barbarians in a D2 challenge match with a young and hungry team. In a game where the level of play was more suited to a DI match, the pace was fast and tackling was fierce. For the first 30 minutes play was even with the Barbos holding to a 10-5 lead. Then inexperience took over, first with a poor pass directly to their outside center in our own 22 leading to a Barbos try. Next, the ball was kicked out of our own try zone, awarding the Barbos a five meter scrum that lead to another try. When the halftime whistle blew, the count was 24-5 in favor of the Barbos. In the second half, the Barbos had a flurry of runs that, combined with poor tackling, lead to another try. Nick Godfrey picked up the team with a thundering run down the right sideline. It seemed many of the Barbos underestimated Nicks speed and power as he out ran many would be tacklers and, when needed, ran over several for the try. When the final whistle blew, the Barbos had won, 34-12. Justin Masterioni led the team with go forward running. Kevin Tucker was very solid at scrumhalf and Jason Issacson was dominating in the line outs. |
