The St. Louis Bombers downed the visiting Kansas City Blues 43-14 on a chilly Missouri afternoon in St. Louis. Ten inches of snow early in the week forced the closing of Sportport, the Bombers home facility. Fortunately, the Bombers were able to secure Centene Stadium, a new field turf facility owned by the Clayton School District, and the match went off as scheduled.

The St. Louis forward pack was dominant on the day, providing a surplus of quality possession. Halfback Scott Giljum opened the scoring with a try that was started by wing Tim Stolarski's long break. Bomber wing Arnold Sibanda finished off some nice handling in the backs to push the Bombers up 12-0 at the 15 minute mark, with fullback Conail Boyd's sideline conversion.

Flyhalf Brian Meyer zipped through a gap to extend the St. Louis lead to 19-0 at the 30 minute mark. Kansas City got on the scoreboard just before halftime when prop Eric Munninghoff crashed over to shorten the Bomber lead to 19-7 at the break.

Bomber lock and captain Hayden Mexted thundered down the touchline to score his team's fourth try of the day, and Boyd's sideline conversion pushed the St. Louis lead to 26-7. Blues lock Ashley Pouche answered with a try after several phases of attack to bring his side back to 26-14 with 20 minutes to play.

But St. Louis dominated the final spell, getting tries from some fresh legs. Center Simon Moate and hooker Pat Hess each scored from relentless pressure on the Blues defense. Wing Arnold Sibanda finished the scoring with his second try of the day to bring the final to 43-14 in favor of the Bombers.

St. Louis opens their RSL season next week at the Chicago Griffins, while the KC Blues travel to Pearl City in a D-1 match.

The Bomber Whites ran in six tries to earn a solid 38-5 victory in the day's second match. Fullback Adam Gottemoeller and wing Andrew Bell each scored a pair of first half tries to give the Bombers a 26-0 halftime lead. The play of the day was Bell's leaping grab of a high ball to score a brilliant try, leaving the Blues scratching their heads.

Center Pat Ryan socred his first ever Bomber try to start the second half assault. Lock Sean "Kingpin" Gunnell powered over for the final try of the day to give the Whites a 38-5 win and keep them undefeated on the young season.

The Whites received a strong game from prop Tom Klepzig, highlighted by a 40 meter romp through the Blues defense. Lock Jason Isaacson put in a good day's work in the set play and around the pitch. The backrow of Matt Viox, Jim Hoffmann and Sam Stahnke was strong in support and defense. Halfback Scott Wozniak and center Joe Mertz put in solid performances behind a solid forward pack.

Spotted in the stands were Bomber alumni: Earl Langhorst, Vic Miller, Craig Tajkowski, Chris "Little Rock" Naunheim, Phil Hamilton, Sterling Hayden, Chris "V" Vogelsang, Mark Sturmoski, Bob Jones and many, many more legends of the past.
