Black and Blue Battle in Big Apple

Saturday, April 21, 2007 - New York, NY

The Bombers first ever trip to New York City saw them in an entertaining match with conference rivals Old Blue. Old Blue ran in nine tries, mostly from long range, and St. Louis grabbed four tries for the first time this season in a 62-20 New York victory. Old Blue center Clinton Courtney had a good night with his foot- kicking a penalty and 7 of 9 conversions.

New York was very strong with ball in hand and supported well, resulting in five first half tries. Halfback Doug Rowe was the catalyst for New York, and #8 Ben Sadgrove led by example in the forwards. Bomber flyhalf Rene Monette put St. Louis on the scoreboard with a late first half try to bring the halftime score to 34-7 New York.

The second half was very even as the visitors came to life. St. louis flanker Josh Witten added a pair of tries and #8 Josh Rainey added another to give the Bombers a four-try night and their first competiton points of the season. New York added four tries in the second spell, highlighted by wing Levin Shoarshadze's dazzling try, to close out a well earned victory.
