Whites Fall to Pearl City

Saturday, March 25, 2006

The Bomber White Side were handily defeated by Pearl City RFC from Muscatine, Iowa 63-5. Pearl City were recent USA D-3 champs and have recently been promoted to D-2. There was simply too much foreign flavor on the pitch against the Whites, as Pearl City's kiwi contingent had their way with the younger Bomber up-and-comers. The Whites got their only points when prop/hooker Gio Lafata scored after center Jim Crutchfield made a midfield break.

The Whites will next play Kansas City RFC in a WRFU D-1 cup match at 5pm in the curtain raiser match to the Super League match at Sportport next Saturday, April 1.

White Side:
Andy Adank, Gio Lafata, Bill Williams, Corey Gunnell, Lucas Murrillo, Dave Domian, Jim Hoffmann, Josh Rainey, Garrett Lambert, Chris Loftquist, Brandon Hamburg, Brad Pollock, Tyler Willibrand, Scotty Giljum, Zach Giljum, Eric Hinson, Jim Crutchfield, Julius Mingala, Kevin Brown, Adam Gottemoeller.

Bonus Points

Spotted in the crowd at the plush new Sportport facility were Bomber legends: Earl Langhorst, Sterling Hayden, John Kyle, Harley Meyer, Cliff Schlereth, Ron Skiljan Sr. and Jr., Phil Hamilton, Mark Sasser, James Belle, Chris Vogelsang, Ken Brigden, Bob Jones, Vic Miller and many, many more.

The Bombers wish to thank Harley Meyer for his generosity in producing and providing the new 35' goalposts and filming platform. Also thanks to Jeff Collier at FastSigns for providing the new scoreboard. And thanks to major sponsors 7-Up Red Jak and Deja Blu for providing refreshments.

In the "touch of class" category, the Bomber women's side presented the Bomber men an engraved pewter mug at the aftermatch ceremonies. The mug commemorated the first ever Rugby Super League match played in St. Louis, and also thanked the men for their support of the women in their inaugural season. Unfortunately, the women's match on Saturday was canceled due to a forfeit by Palmer.
