Whites Go 2-1 on Weekend

Sat/Sun, October 22-23, 2005

Mizzou 24 Whites 12

The University of Missouri team capitalized on several Bomber mistakes and withstood a late Bomber rally to take home the win. The Mizzou squad appeared more organized and poised than in previous seasons, and played with a great sense of purpose. Mizzou center Sean McDonald scored twice to lead his team to victory. The Mizzou kick-and-chase tactics worked well for them on a windy day where many passes were hitting the ground on the Bomber side of play. Desmet grad Brett Moeller and flanker Jim Moyneur also added tries for a Mizzou team that out-hustled the Whites for the majority of the match. Mizzou halfback Mike Peurrung played well and lock Ryan DeSelm was outstanding in the lineouts and around the pitch.

Mizzou grad Zach Giljum and centers Josh Witten and Eric Hinson had strong games for the Whites. 19 year-old prop Canaan Craig and replacement fullback Conail Boyd scored a try each for the Whites, with 17 year-old flyhalf Dan Schwartzmeyer adding a conversion.

The Bombers hosted Mizzou at Colombos after the match and a good time was had by all. Receiving Bomber warm-up tops in recognition for their outstanding play were Mizzou players Jim Moyneur, Sean McDonald and Ryan DeSelm.

Whites 53 Hornets 7

The Bomber Whites started slow, but then hit their strides in the second half to thump the Hornets 9 tries to 1. Eric Hinson and Conail Boyd scored first half tries to give the Whites a 12-7 halftime lead. The Bombers let the ball do the work in the second half, as the wings and fullback scored the next 5 tries. Fullback Bryan Lay and wing David Samples each dotted down twice, with wing TJ Ebner adding another. Boyd added his second of the day just before hooker Andy Entwistle was rewarded for following up play with a try under the posts to close the scoring at 53-7.

Whites 50 Sunday Morning RFC 5

The Whites took care of business in the back end of the double-header by blitzing the men in purple 8 tries to 1 with the help of some young legs. Bomber 17 year-old #8 Garrett Lambert was a wrecking ball- scoring 4 tries and making a multitude of tackles. Wing Kevin Brown, a 19 year old student at Webster University, scored from the wing, as did 17 year old Dan Schwartzmeyer. Teen tower Dan "Big Bird" Aten was a force in the lineouts. Fullback Steve Bosse and flanker Zach Giljum also added tries for the Whites. The veteran nerve center of Jim Boggeman and John Ruzicka controlled the match nicely. Captain Corey Gunnell and props Bill Williams and Andy Adank led by example from the front. Youngster Bobby Ciapciak positioned himself well all day and made several saving tackles on the wing.
