Bombers Win Arkansas Tournament
Sat & Sun, Nov 12 & 13, 2005
The Bombers enjoyed a fun weekend both on and off the pitch at the annual Little Rock Tournament. The "end of season" charter
bus trip featured the younger players entertaining the veterans with songs, jokes and stories. The young and old combined on
the weekend to play some very entertaining rugby en route to a first place finish for the second year in a row.
Bombers 48 Memphis Blues 7
The Bomber Black side raced out to a 36-0 halftime lead against an over-matched Memphis side and coasted to a 48-7 victory.
The Bomber try scorers were: Scott "Bowling Ball" Lay, Bryan Lay, Hayden Mexted, Conail Boyd, Chad Tsitovich, Phil Reed, Jim
Crutchfield and John McBride. Mexted added 3 conversions.
Bombers 41 Little Rock 10
Center Russell Gall and hooker John McBride scored 2 tries each to propel the Black side to victory against the home team and
their boisterous crowd. Chad Tsitovich and Conail Boyd added tries, and Hayden Mexted contributed 11 points with his boot.
Two Mizzou guest players- Mike "Dirty" Sanchez and Johan also put in solid performances.
Bombers 35 Tulsa 10
The Blacks scored 5 converted tries to win convincingly in the final match on Sunday. A heavy overnight rain soaked the
pitches and the Bomber pack decided to carry most of the weight on their shoulders. The Bomber front row of Andy Adank, John
McBride and Canaan Craig punished their opposites and set the table for their mates. #8 Phil Reed played a great match and
was the beneficiary of the hard work performed in front of him- scoring 3 tries on the day. Wing Jim Crutchfield and Johan
from Mizzou added tries, with Mexted adding all 5 conversions on a very sloppy day. Flanker Alex McPheeters had an
outstanding match- providing excellent in support and a very high tackle count.
The Bombers would like to thank the MOPES for feeding the squad on Saturday night. Coach Ron Laszewski and assistant coach Ed
Reed wish to thank the squad for their commitment and efforts on the season, and encourage everyone to stay fit and healthy
over the winter break.
