Super League Opener Postponed

Saturday, March 17, 2007

Snow and ice forced the postponement of half of the season openers in the 2007 USA Rugby Super League, including the Bombers opening match vs. PAC in Washington, DC. Two matches in New York City and another in Philadelphia were also postponed due to the late-winter storm that roared through the Northeast. The Bombers waited patiently Friday evening at their gate in St. Louis for their departure, only to be sent home by the airlines as all flights into the DC area were cancelled through Sunday evening.

The make-up date for the match is April 7 in Washington, DC.

The Bomber's traveling party wishes to thank Rene and Elenor Monette for the impromtu hosting of a team get-together on Friday evening after the flight cancellation. Supporters Harley Meyer and John Kyle, and players Joe Mertz and John Erlich arrived in DC earlier in the day and had to suffer through St. Patty's weekend in DC with no rugby. To their credit they had a plan B in place for the match: JK would play all tight five positions, Harley would handle the backrow. and Mertz and Erlich would cover the backs. The thought of that brings only one thing to mind: pay per view.

The St. Louis Bombers next match will be at home vs. the Chicago Griffins in what now becomes the Bombers' Super League season opener next Saturday, March 24 at Sportport in Maryland Heights at 3pm. The Bomber Whites host Mizzou in the 1:30pm curtain raiser.
