Bomber Women season opener
Memphis 12 - Bombers 0

Saturday, March 3, 2007 - St. Louis, MO

On a windy day in Memphis, the Bomber Women opened their 2007 campaign with a hard fought 12-0 loss to Memphis. Sporting six rugby newcomers, the Bombers struggled to maintain possession in a very stop-start affair. The Memphis forwards kept up constant pressure with the wind at their backs to notch an unconverted try 13 minutes in. Memphis used to wind to keep the Bombers on the defensive throughout the first half, but the Bomber defense stood strong refused to surrender any further first half points

In the second half, the Bombers used the wind at their backs to keep a territorial advantage. Numerous Bomber line breaks by Ann-Marie Russell, Kelsey Risman and Robbyn Keating were stopped just shy of the tryline by a stingy Memphis defense. Memphis took advantage of some suspect Bomber tackling in the waning moments to notch a converted try for a 12-0 victory.

The Bombers were fielding a very inexperienced side that put in a gutsy first effort. Credit to Memphis for a well played match.
