Rugby is in the Air

The St. Louis Bomber’s Mardi Gras booth was another success this year as record crowds made their way through Soulard.

Positioned at 6th & Chouteau the Bomber’s tent was the first booth on the parade route and the first stop for many patrons.

For the second year in a row the booth sold out of Hurricanes, before noon, and other liquor drinks throughout the day. Big thanks to those who stopped by to not only enjoy Mardi Gras but help support the club.

The Bombers opened the second half of the season with a match against the Springfield Celts. Weather was perfect to be outside as temps warmed to the mid 70s. The Bombers were ready to get back to business and focus on the upcoming season.

It was a good mix of both new and veteran players on the field.

Scott Hanify would lead the way for the Bombers, scoring three times earning him his hat trick before half time. The Bombers would score three more tries by Joe Lawrence, Jake Fautley, and Mike McGowan but only converted one conversion by Keegan Mills.

The Celts would score two tries, one conversion, and two penalty kicks but would fall 32-18 to the Bombers.

Recap

It was a good opening match for the Bombers as both sides travel for their first league match of the Spring. The DII side faces KCRFC in KC while the DIII side travels to Rolla to take on MS&T. Both games are big tests for each side and will set the tone for the rest of the season. KCRFC is always tough at home and the Bombers have struggled to get a win there, but if the Bombers do get the W, based on points, KCRFC will have a difficult run to make playoffs. The DIII match will be a battle of youth versus experience but a fun match to watch.

Schedule & Events

The Bombers have a match every weekend from now until mid-April with a couple of events in between. March 25th will be the Bombers annual Own the Bar Night at Colombos where a portion of the sales go back to the club.
