And Then There Were 2!

National Championship Bound!

After defeating Ventura on Saturday the Bombers had one more team between them and a shot at the National Championship game.

On Sunday the Bombers faced Sacramento Blackhawks, who were recently transitioned back to DII from the DI level, in the Final Four.

Sacramento were first to score on a blocked clearing kick deep within the Bomber zone three minutes into the match taking a 7-0 lead. Not an ideal start for the Bombers but they slowly took the lead back with three consecutive penalty kick by Keegan Neal before the Bombers scored their first try by Mark Menne, making it 16-7.

Sacramento scored their second try cutting the score down to 16-14 but Keegan Neal connected a long PK to add three more points to the Bombers before half time.

Keegan would kick another PK at the start of the second half but Sacramento scored another try, with conversion, bringing the score to a one point difference with the Bombers still leading 22-21.

Sacramento would only score one more try late in the game but not before the Bombers went to score four more tries and Keegan would kick a total of six penalty kicks throughout the match. Tries were scored by George Sullivan(2), Mark Menne(2) and Colin Fitzhenry.

With the final score 49-27 the Bombers earned their spot for the National Championship match in Glendale, Colorado. The DII Championship match will be the St. Louis Bombers vs. Life Running Eagles. The Eagles defeated the Detroit Tradesmen 32-27 to earn their spot in the Championship match.

Sunday, June 4th, at Infinity Park in Glendale is where the National Championship will take place. The Bombers are not the only team to represent St. Louis in the National Championship as the Royals will try and capture the DIII title.

The Royals match is set for 11AM/MST and then the Bombers match at 3PM/MST or 4PM/CST. Both matches will be broadcasted live on USA Rugby’s YouTube channel with professional commentating as well. Links will be provided once they are available

The Bombers have been working so hard throughout the season and no doubt have earned their shot at the National Championship.

The Bombers are still taking donations to help offset travel and lodging costs for the National Championship trip. St. Louis Bombers RFC National Championship All donations are tax-deductible and greatly appreciate all those who have already donated. Thank You.
