D1 kicks off this weekend

After a disappointing early end to the season last year the Bombers are back in black with some major and exciting updates.

First – after many hard years of effort by the club board and previous coach, the Bombers have made their way back to an elite level of rugby and will be playing in the MidWest D1 Union. The Bombers have their work cut out for them as they will now consistently face higher caliber teams throughout the season. To push the team into this next level the board also made the decision to appoint a new head coach, John Watson. Watson has proven himself a highly effective and next tier coach with his work at Lindenwood, head coaching EIRA Midwest and the MO Boys All-Stars. Time will tell how well the boys will fare in this next level of competition, but so far they have taken quickly to the new and aggressive offensive and defensive structures being implemented by Watson.

The efforts behind the scenes of getting the club to this level cannot be understated. Members of the board and previous coach, Ben Myers, are the ones everyone needs to thank for taking the club after the fall from super league and returning it to the highest level in the Midwest. In order to support this change, it was also decided to officially drop the second side from competitive play, but we will still be having second side matches to gain experience for younger or more social side players.

The Bombers need you, the fans, the alumni, the family to continue making this the best club in St. Louis. This is going to be an exciting season, regardless of outcome, so be sure to get out and support the Black this Fall as much as possible, wherever possible. Let’s Paint it Black.
