Return to Play Guidelines

USA Rugby Return to Play

On Tuesday USA Rugby released their “Return to Play Guidelines” outlining recommendations and a framework to “determine potential return to play plans amidst the COVID-19 climate”.

The general rules of engagement fall in-line with those proposed by the CDC on how to monitor, prevent and treat the spread of COVID-19.

The guidelines also state that any club or team must not only follow the standards set by the CDC but also those set by their local municipalities.

Rugby is a very high contact sport and while many counties have reopened parks and other outdoor venues, including St. Louis, any contact sports are still considered ‘closed’ until further notice.

Is there a future for rugby? Of course there is.

These guidelines set by USA Rugby, which go into effect June 1st, help clubs determine the best course of action to return to the pitch within their communities. Per USA Rugby Guidelines, the executive board will be drafting a team policy for a “return to training/play” while still following the guidelines set by the CDC and USA Rugby. As this is a rapidly evolving situation with many moving parts, please check back regularly for club updates.

Club Update:

The St. Louis Bombers Rugby Park in Sunset Hills is still moving forward as we wait for permits from the Corps of Engineers but has slowed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The St. Louis Hall of Fame induction for the club has been postponed until further notice as well.

While we are uncertain about Summer 7s we are working on other events for when we hit Stage 4 of the guidelines.

Finally we want to say THANK YOU to those who have been working hard to treat and fight against this pandemic. The Bomber’s have had many medical professionals come through this organization and cannot thank all the men and women enough for their hard work. You are the real “Man of the Match”.
